2004: Lincoln Library and Museum Opens
It’s not a Lincoln Watermelon Monument (like the statute Lincoln, IL would have created in honor of our 16th President), but Springfield, IL helped IL keep the name “Land of Lincoln” by opening the Lincoln Library and Museum. By combining scholarship and showmanship, the Library and Museum helps to communicate the life and times of Abraham Lincoln through interactive activities, and by doing everything short of reincarnating Lincoln himself in order to communicate his own tale to guests.
