September 16, 1981 marks the birth of Alexis Bledel, a blossoming talent who only 19 short years later wowed us all (or Elizabeth at least) with her debut on WB’s Gilmore Girls. Gilmore Girls, the Emmy Award-winning (seriously) comedy-drama series follows a young single mother, Lorelai Gilmore, and her daughter Rory through the trials and tribulations of life in small town Stars Hollows, Connecticut. If the quirky characters, ridiculous names and face-paced dialogue doesn’t impress you, Gilmore Girls tackles tough themes including social class issues, generational divides, academic complications and love triangles (required by all shows on the WB).
Though the show went off the air in 2007 after a disappointing final season, Bledel has continued to impress us with her acting skills in such mega blockbusters as Tuck Everlasting and Sin City. Oh, and did we mention she is also in Sisterhood of the Traveling Bikeshorts Pants?
